Lesley Riddoch: The Nordic Series of Videos

There are now four videos in the Nordic series where Lesley Riddoch contrasts and compares Scotland with our northern neighbours. They are of course all small(-ish) Independent nations. Sadly, we though small(-ish) are not Independent. We are highly educated, with a diverse and highly developed economy, so we should compare well with these neighbours, eh? Watch Lesley as she meets and talks to politicians, educators, business people, artists, musicians and innovators in Iceland, the Faroes, Norway and – most recently – Estonia.

State Pensions and the Economy in Independent Scotland

A couple of weeks back we published a post called Scotland – An Exciting Future. It features a video by Robert Anderson of the Yes Perth City Group. He has also made a video about how the Border might operate in an independent Scotland.

Since then Robert has sent us links to a further two videos – one about state pensions and one about the economy.

Pensions and the economy are probably the two most frequent topics that come up in discussions about Scottish independence. These videos will be invaluable in persuading more Scots that our pensions and our economy will be safe and indeed prosper in an independence Scotland.

Execution & Beheading on Glasgow Green

On 30th August 200 years ago James ‘Purlie’ Wilson was hanged and beheaded on Glasgow Green for High Treason. A rebellious crowd of 20,000, held back by soldiers, watched him die. He gave an impassioned speech on the gallows. Did the Press report on what he said? No.

The Declaration – the letter of Liberty

Yesterday, had things been otherwise, I would have been up in Arbroath celebrating the 700th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration. I’m sure that many of you would have been there too. And I’m sure that at some point we will be there enjoying a belated gathering.

In the meantime we have Lesley Riddoch & Charlie Stuart to thank for this film about the Declaration. And also to thank Patrick Doyle for the original score.
